ABOUT BAUBIOLOGIE

BAUBIOLOGIE=BAU+BIO+LOGIE

BAUBIOLOGIE = “Bau” (building) + “Bio” (biology) + “Logie” (spirit)

Baubiologie is a design method
that considers the most of human health and the natural environment,
and was born in Switzerland 150 years ago.
This method was naturally used in Late Bodensee
located in the country borders of Austria, Switzerland and Germany.
By utilizing the knowledge of not only architecture but also wide range of the biology field,
residences are built in consideration of a site, the state of a building, its surroundings,
and even the environment of the whole town.
The concept is that environment creates people and people creates environment.

ABOUT BAUBIOLOGIST

Baubiologists, who are the specialists of baubiological architecture,
play a role as a translator in planning a building.
This means that a baubiologist is someone who stands
between other specialistsand conveys their technical advice and knowledge
in an easy-to-understand way.

To seek for the best solution, we give advice from broad viewpoints,
including the influence to energy consumption and human bodies,
relations to natural environments, and impacts on other creatures,
from a whole design of the architecture and the materials used.

PRINCIPLES OF BAUBIOLOGIE

Baubiologie has 25 guiding principles.
The following are some of these principles:

[Principle 1] When choosing a site, take the power of the land into account.
A site to build a residence is an important factor
to obtain healthy living environment.
We need to examine the information on the land and optimize its features.

[Principle 4] Houses should be designed individually
to harmonize residents and nature. Houses should be designed individually
in accordance with the conditions of a site and a resident,
instead of being stereotypical. If a house is newly built, it means
that the house will block the land. As such, we need to devise a way
not to obstruct the operation of nature at the time of building a house.

[Principle 16] Select building materials that do not emit radiation.
In our daily lives, our bodies continue to be exposed to traces of radiation,
and some home building materials emit radiation.
Especially, we need to be careful of selecting indoor building materials (interior materials),
as we spend a lot of time in the house.

Others:
[Principle 7] Use interior materials that absorb and emit moisture.
[Principle 17] Take in natural air that contains a lot of negative ions.
[Principle 23] Consider environmental issues and energy costs
for building materials.

PURPOSE OF BAUBIOLOGIE

In Baubiologie, it is essential to take buildings, living creatures,
and the global environment into consideration in a well-balanced manner.
If we build a house out of natural building materials,
such materials will return to nature when they rot.
Conversely, if we build a house with artificial building materials,
we will have to think about how to dispose of such materials later on,
and we need to consume energy for the disposal.
This emits extra gas and people then inhale it,
and it also causes the decrease of other living creatures.
150 years ago, architects conceived of Baubiologie
in order to find ways for us to live and to maintain the earth healthy.

TARGET OF BAUBIOLOGIE

Building under the 25 principles of Baubiologie is important
for the creation of a home where we can achieve true health.
Yet, if we plan to create buildings or towns perfectly,
they can be flawless from a certain aspect
but the flawlessness can cause hidden pitfalls from another viewpoint. Instead of seeking for perfection, creating a space
with 70-80% satisfaction from holistic viewpoint
is key to be able to create a well-balanced space.
This is the target of Baubiologie.
